Hello,

A friend of mine has a 2003 TS Server in workgroup mode on which users can work across the Internet. He just bought a new server on which he wants to run SBS 2003 R2 SP2.
I understand that after setting up the SBS 2003 server we have to add the 2003 TS Server to the SBS Domain, which is described in a Microsoft whitepaper. But how do we transfer the, already in use, TS Cal's from the 2003 TS Server to the new SBS 2003 R2 SP2 Server after setup?

Are there any other things we might be overlooking?

With best regards,

Victor

Correct me if I'm wrong but you just wish to join the TS server to SBS domain, it should not have any effect the TS Licesning.

Hello Kevin,

I don't know if it is a problem but i've read that the SBS Server must have the licensing authority server installed and must have all licenses including the TSCAL's.
In my friend's situation the TS Server has the licensing authority server and the TSCAL's, so we thougt there has to be a way to transfer the TSCAL's and shutdown the licensing authority server on the TS Server.

To clarify: The TS Server is the oldest running server (in workgroup mode) and the SBS Server is coming newly..

Thanks,

Victor

Hi Victor,

It is recommended that the Licensing serveris installed on the SBS, but it isn't a MUST. However, it really isn't a problem installing the TS LS on the SBS anyway, as you of course do need to reactivate the TS Server as well as the TS Cals, which might maybe require a phone call to the MS. That is certainly not a reason to not move the TS Licensing.

We have joined the branch office to our SBS 2003 Headquarters and have the same user experience on the branch office as we have on our local  network at the Headquarters. Want to know how?
