I have WSUS 3.0 installed on a client’s SBS system and to date it has worked fine - all known computers reporting their status etc.  In recent months two new laptops and a desktop were added to the system (all XP machines).  The two laptops are shown in the list when I open the WSUS console, and this was without any specific intervention from me. However, despite all my efforts the desktop does not show up.

All machines, old and new and including the desktop, are listed in the same container (SBS Computers) within Active Directory Users and Computers.

I have checked/reset the GPO on the workstation and forced a GPO update. Any idea where I could look? Where could this problem be coming from?  The PC is behaving itself in all other regards.

Problem Solved !

With th PC not being updtaed automatically, in despair I did a manual update from Microsoft using the link in the Start menu.  To save time, I just selected the security patches, but before I could do that an update (or two) to the Automatic updates software was required and downloaded.  Something in there seems to have 'kick-started' things on board the PC and it is now showing up in WSUS.

A tip to bear in mind
