We are currently running SBS 2003 SP1....we have yet to move to R2. At a minimum, we desire to update Windows Server 2003 to SP2 and, possibly, update SBS 03 to R2 (may be wise to "sit tight" and await SBS 08, notwithstanding hardware issues related thereto). In planning for the update(s), I've encountered the following disk space issues:
Our Dell PowerEdge disk subsystem is currently configured as follows:
Channel 0 - 2 disks configured as RAID 1 array...total capacity is 68GB with two partitions...the system partition (C is 11GB and the second partition (E: used to store Exchange Server data, ClientApps and some program files) is 57GB.
Channel 1 - 3 disks configured as RAID 5 array....total capacity is 136GB..one partition used for data.
The system partition currently has 2GB of free space (hindsight....probably should have made the system partition larger). The paging file currently resides on the system partition. Server contains 4GB RAM.
Assuming that the system partition should be larger, I'm a bit confused as to whether we can/should:
1. Use "diskpart" or "3rd party utility" to "expand" the system partition (I guess it would be necessary to delete the E: partition in order to "expand" the system partition...with a subsequent restore of the data to the "revised" E: partition), or
2. Should we "bite the dust" and "start over".....reformat the partitions, reinstall SBS, and restore data.
Furthermore, I would appreciate any thoughts about moving to R2.
Thanks so much,
James
