we have a user with a mobile phone (laptop, pda, etc) that does not run windows but osX (symbian, etc) instead. the user needs access to his mailbox when he's in the office and when out.

back in old days when we had unix (solaris) machine as our main DNS (BIND) server, we simply created an A record pointing to mail server (e.g. mail.aabbcc.com) and any mail client was able to connect to that FQDN address regardless of one's location. which was cool.

now what options do we have with SBS DNS server running .local net? i tried creating same ol' A record but instead received mail.aabbcc.com.aabbcc.local. which is nonsense.

any clue?

if the mail server you want to connect to is external, then this should work as is, because.........

your local dns server is authorative for the sbs.local domain name/zone

any requests for anything else, are forwarded on to your ISP dns - or whoever you chose as your dns forwarder.

if you want to address your local server by its external domain name, you have to add a new forward lookup zone into dns, for domain.com and then enter the records into this zone.
