We are currently running SBS 2003 SP1. We desire to update Windows Server 2003 to SP2 and would appreciate some advice regarding disk space issues.
 
Our Dell PowerEdge disk subsystem is currently configured as follows:
 
Channel 0 - 2 disks configured as RAID 1 array...total capacity is 68GB with two partitions...the system partition is 11GB and the second partition (used to store Exchange Server data, ClientApps and some program files) is 57GB.
 
Channel 1 - 3 disks configured as RAID 5 array....total capacity is 136GB..one partition used for data.
 
The system partition currently has 2GB of free space (hindsight....should have made the system partition larger).
 
Should we "bite the dust" and expand the system partition prior to installing SP2? I assume that expansion of the system partition would require a reinstall of SBS. If so, perhaps we should plan to move to R2 of SBS03.
 
Any assistance would be appreciated.

There is software out there that will let you play around with the Partitions, you would have to shrink the Exchange partition to enlarge the system drive.

i would take a backup and then give that a try, keeping in mind that if it corrupts anything you've got a backup to be able to restore too, or you can always go about reinstalling SBS as you have stated (I would rather want to avoid this).

Although the 11 Gb size isn't royal, it isn't really a problem if you have 2 Gb free space now. Have you looked at moving other stuff to other partitions? Have you removed temporary files that can be found in different locations? Have you moved the logs to the other partition? You don't mention if you have Premium, but that also has some 'hidden' files that can be moved off the system partition.

I was in a similar position last month, I wanted to install SP2 but I only had a couple of GB free on C:\.
 
In the end I took a full backup, replaced the HDD with a new one that was partitioned to give me a 35GB C:\ and I did a disaster restore, I then installed SP2.
 
The benefit of this is that if it all goes pear shaped you can slot your old HDD back in and try again.
