Hi, new guy here with a SBS backukp problem.  This first originated last week at a client.  The job would run, but when it came time to verify, the job would fail.  I would get this message:
Error: The device reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: Bad data.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.

I hacked the exe file to not verify and job runs fine.  Now we have a second client that has the same problem.  I can't imagine hacking the exe file is the fix.  Anyone else encounter this?

hi,

i have the exact same issue at a clients.

i tried all sorts.

tried loading the job selection direct into ntbackup, the backup would run fine, then fail imediatley on a verify.

i then tried a small systate only backup, same issue. backup runs, but the verify fails imediatley.

i was working on the assumption that the backup drive - an hp internal scsi dat 72 drive - was faulty. this drive is about 3 years old, never had a problem before.

we tried putting in a spare dat 72 drive, but i forgot to exclude some folders and the backup failed as it ran out of tape.

i ran a backup to disk which ran 100% so i am still happy to accept that the drive is faulty.

but now reading your post, i am starting to wonder...

ours is sbs 2003 premium sp2. server is an hp ml150g2.

forgot to add, we also tried a brand new set of tapes, brand new cleaning tape. had no effect.
