Hi,

I have created a new contact within the AD of a SBS 2003 server to forward email to an external email address.

Unfortunately with every message I recieve this message in the admin mailbox.

A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator

I have double checked the contact and it seems to be created correctly I have done this on other servers without any problems can anyone advise on a resolution

Hi Philip,

Just reading your message and I'm no where near an expert, so pardon me if my suggestion appears offensive. Is it possible that one of the email addresses is wrong i.e. doesn't exist, and hence the emails bouncing back?

Also, how come you're not using an email client such as Outlook to forward the emails, is it "quicker" or more effective in AD?

Hello Jack,

I dont find your response offensive, the email address is definetly correct, what I am tryiny to achieve is to send all messages sent to username@company.co.uk to a external source. The easiest way to do this normally is to create a contact in the active directory with a valid smtp mail address and then Exchange can forward a copy of any message sent to the local account to the external email address. Messages can be also saved to the local account or just forwarded to the external account.

Outlook or the clients mail services does not need to be on or running to forward mail to the external account.

As I have mentioned this has worked fine on other installations but not this time it may be to do with the smart host dear old BT but I will get a resolution and let you know.

Regards

Philip
