As you all have probably read by now, Dell is buying everdream.com a Managed Service Provider. They are basically going to start taking Small Business Customers away from us and those of us that have sunk thousands into Managed Service software are going to find ourselves going down the drain unless we do something to stop them.

I was wondering what others thougth about this and I also wanted to know if it would be wise for the Small Business Community to shun Dell and start selling HP and Gateway to send a message to Michael Dell?

Thanks, Shane

Well, I'm not sure I subscribe to your gloom and doom, but I do think it is somewhat naive to think there will ever be enough of a revolt among the small business community to make one iota of difference. The market changes, the adaptable will survive.

I have been doing this for over 14 years. I don't know how you run your business but nothing in the Small Business realm works  as well as Managed Services. I have tried every kind of service and agreement possible. They all keep you working 70+ hours a week because of the way technology changes and the learning curves while trying to fix everything that breaks, plan for projects and the many other business aspects of Small Business.

The Managed Services was the only real thing that brought sanity to my business. Allowing me to staff enough people to do the jobs right and cover all the emergencies, while planning new projects. It has kept the income in the green no matter what the market share. So I do believe it will cause us serious harm. Especially when they are targeting the 10 computer plus companies that want our services and not the $20 hour guy working from his basement.

And there are plenty of people in the SBS realm that sell so much DELL hardware that we would make a HUGE difference and they would back pedal in a minute. The problem is getting all the pessimist on board that don't want to do anything but sit on their hands and let papa Dell tell them how the market is going to go. We can influence the market a whole lot more than they can. We have loyal customers that will drop DELL and go with Gateway and HP if we push it. We can force them out of our sand box.

Either your in or your out. How much money does DELL make you? Will they watch the kiddies while you work late tonight? Thanks but no thanks, I want them out of Managed Services.

Shane
