Do you know if SBS 2008 RC0 is designed to be updated to the RTM product once it becomes available?

I want to do extensive tests with RC0 in a closed environment, but when the final shipping product is released it would be my desire to simply update the RC0 to an evaluation version and put it straight into a production environment. In this case I do not wish to do a migration.

This was possible with Windows 2008 Standard Server RC0 to easily transition to the final shipping product and put it right into a live environment.

Most beta's do not allow an upgrade path to RTM versions without something like a repair install.

Willem -

As I understand it, there will not be an "upgrade" path from RC0 to RTM or any other releases that may come in-between. With the nature of the SBS product, there is not a way to in-place upgrade with the current build. The only way to go from RC0 to RTM, again as I understand it, will be to run through a migration from the RC0 install to an RTM install, or wipe out the system and install clean.

For this reason, I would not recommend attempting to use the RC0 (or any other RC builds that may get released) in anything resembling a production environment, or an environment you wish to take to production. Even though the product is listed as a Release Candidate, I suspect there may be some significant changes in the product between what you have now and what will ship with RTM, based on my participation in this beta as well as the results of previous betas in the SBS product line.

HTH...
