As far as I know that is not possible and I am wondering why you would want that?

I am going to be deploying a SBS and am debating if I should go with 2003 or 2008. I thought that if there were downgrade rights that I may as well wait until 2008 comes out because then I can use either one. I am always skeptical of new MS products when they come out and am unsure if I want to put a brand new product in a production environment on day one. It would be nice if I could buy SBS 2008, install 2003, then migrate to 2008 when all of the initial bugs get worked out.

Does anyone else know if this is possible? Was it possible to downgrade to SBS 2000 when SBS 2003 came out?

Zac -

I am 99% certain that there will NOT be downgrade rights to SBS 2003 when SBS 2008 comes out. There have not been downgrade rights for earlier releases, and it would make no sense for MS to do downgrade rights for a product as complex as SBS.

What you can do is purchase SBS 2003 with Software Assurance, implement SBS 2003 now, and then when you're ready, get the SBS 2008 bits and do a migration. I do not know how long MS will be selling SBS 2003 after SBS 2008 comes out, so if this option makes sense to you, you might want to pull the trigger on the software sooner rather than later.

HTH...
