This is probably the right time to think about this.....

I currently run a retail SBS2003 Standard SP2 at home (OK. I am a geek  I have not upgraded to R2 but I will be upgrading to SBS2008 when it comes out.  Since I am not a company, I really need to find the most financially efficient (ie cheapest but legal) way to go for the SBS2008 upgrade.

Now, a flat out purchase of SBS2008 Standard at retail will cost 1089 Washingtons.....
And there presumably will not be an upgrade price for existing SBS2003 installations (is this right?)

So now, a purchase of an SBS2003 R2 open license +2yrs SA locally I can get for around $750.
And the SA fullfillment to SBS2008 includes the additions of Outlook 2007 and Entourage 2004 (Mac).

Isn't the SBS2003 R2 OL + 2yrs SA a way better deal?  Or am I missing something?  Or is there an upgrade pricing?

A better method (if your hardware is also getting a bit old, and you are planning to get some performance from the system) would be to purchase the SBS2003 R2 OEM with a new server, and then purchase SA after that.

Upgrade prices haven't been published yet. And you won't be able to do an inplace upgrade as SBS 2008 requires 64-bit hardware.

Software Assurance is your upgrade path. Talk to your software vendor about purchasing software assurance for your cals and the sbs software. If you can get SA you'll be able to get sbs 2k8 for about half the release price.

Marina,
Yes.  I realized that way back since late last year  And I already have a new machine waiting for it.....

Question is:  Will there be an upgrade pricing at all?

William,
Yes I agree.  But I cannot buy SA without buying another copy of SBS2003 R2 here in Hong Kong as I am way past 90-days (4 years over actually)......

right.  check into doing just that.  We know the pricing of cougar..what i have been quoting is basically purchasing sbs2k3 with sa along with the cals and it's worked out to between $450 less and half the price.
