Does anyone have a suggestion for how to use the fax service when running SBS2008 in a hyperV VM?  Is some sort of "network serial" or "network usb" device emulation the only available option?  If so, any recommendations on a reasonably priced product?

There's no hardware support in a virtual machine for PCI devices...so the virtual machine can't use the fax card.

that can't be right. At least in Xen(linux hypervisor) i've often used pci 10/100 cards inside the vm's. Is it MS's hypervisor that isn't pci compliant?

Just wondering if anyone has found a working fax solution to this? A USB fax modem seems a good option, though don't most of these still 'appear' on a serial port?
Seems USB isn't an issue for backups (though I do have speed concerns at how fast these devices work?)

Looking to HyperV SBS 2008 standard along side another 2008 VM running as a TS box. But fax and SBS backup are necessity. I find it amazing MS is happy to point out the Hyper-V scenarios with SBS 2008 yet offers no solutions to keep the advertised 'features' of SBS operational.

It's serial over usb..the usb interface is the transport and that's what the windows machine uses.  USB will work as fast as the bus contention and cpu usage allow you to..if your usb 2.0 isn't hammered and your system cpu's aren't being nailed you'll get the most speed your usb device will actually handle.
