I have somehow installed SBS2003R2 without installing SBS2003SP1, according to the Best Practice Analyzer. But the problem is that in order to install the SBS2003 SP1 update, you have to install 5 components in a specific order. When I try this, I get to the third component and it says, "a newer version of this component is already installed--you do not need to install this component" and cancels. The fourth and fifth components, of course, say that I have to have the third component installed before they can be installed.

If I go to Windows Update and check for updates, it says that I have ALL the required and optional updates installed for everything.

Needless to say, my server is a wreck.

Should I just trash it and start over? I have about 10 users (15 CALS) and because we haven't been able to get the server up and running right, we haven't really taken advantage of any of its services.

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

jase

I would check the svcpack.log file and check to see if it has any insight on what is happing. But if the only issue your having is that the BP is failing on that I wouldnt worry to much. If your system is updated and patched thats most important.

Hi Jason,

This is impossible. SBS 2003 R2 has SBS 2003 SP1 included. Please check the details of the error, also in the other tabs of the SBS BPA, as something else might be going on here.
