Hi.
I have installed a Buffalo TeraStation NAS appliance on our network, and whilst it allegedly integrates with Active Directory I'm having a small problem with it. It's added itself to the domain correctly and I can see the computer accout in AD. The Samba software on the NAS box has copied over the domain user accounts, which I was hoping to use to connect to it (i.e. domainname\username for authentication) but it only seems to allow me to connect if I enter nasboxname\username, so it looks as though it doesn't really integrate with Active Directory in the true sense of the phrase, more that it copies user accounts over to be used as local accounts on the NAS box. If I enter the domainname\username method it keeps prompting until I get an "Access Denied" error.
Now, the question is this: If I go into the local Group Policy on each machine (or the client computer policy in GP Management) and enable the following value, will this then allow the domain user authentication to the Samba NAS box?
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Polices\Security Options\Microsoft Network Client: Send Unencrypted Password to 3rd Party SMB Servers.
This value is currently disabled at the moment. Also, if this resolves the issue, what are the implications of allowing this option?
Thanks
Gary
