Hi,

I have just installed SBS 2003 for the first time, and have run into a couple of issues.

The customer using SBS 03 has an old server running Windows Server 2003 and running on there is their old mail server. Some users are still connecting to this server for their email, and some users are now connecting to Exchange on the new SBS server.

The problem is, the users who are connecting to different mail servers are not able to send messages to each other. Is there an easy way around this? All users will eventually connect to Exchange, but it will take some time for me to reconfigure everyone.

My second problem is with Outlook Web Access. I want to set up a rule so that mail is forwarded to a different web address, but when I create the rule to do this, it doesn't work, mail is not forwarded.

To create the rule, I selected Rules, New. I gave the rule a name, then in the 'Sent to' box, I entered the users email address. I selected 'Forwared it to', then entered the relevant email address.

After saving the rule, and sending some test messages, the mail goes into the users inbox, but is not forwared. Any reason why?

Thanks

Nick

Nick,

Are both email servers authoritive for the same domain? It sounds like this and if it is that will never work. That forwarding rule is a client based rule and that won't work with OWA. You either need to create a forwarding rule in Exchange for that mailbox or use Outlook and make that rule. If Outlook does not mark it as a client side rule that tule will also run if Outlook is not running. Can you give that a try?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure I know exactly what you mean by the servers being authoritative. They both handle mail for the same domain.

I have re-created the rule using Outlook - but the messages are still not forwarding.
How do I get Outlook to mark a rule as a client side rule? and how do I create a forwarding rule for a mailbox in Exchange.

Thanks

Nick

Well, you cannot have two email servers handle one domain as you do now. In the users properties in the ADUC you can set a forwarding address for a user. A detailed description of this procedure van be found here (subscribers):
