Hello

Quite a number of programs may be installed without the admin priviledge granted. Is there a way to prevent users to install new programs?
Thank you
Nicolas

if you really want to do this, it can be done with software restriction policies.

using this method you can allow users to use only approved .exe files.

however it is a bit of a mine field so i wouldnt reccomend it.

what sort of programs are we talking about?

i see users installing things like google/yahoo tollbar - its easy enough to remove it, and most of the time the user is completley oblivious to the fact it was there, or that it is gone.

Any program.
We'd like to secure user environment. The problem is that users intall things that could be real threats to the whole system. As a side effect, some programs, without letting you know, generate traffic towards internet that is not wanted.

if your running sbs premium you can prevent the traffic with isa,

but if it is a secure environment you want, then software restriction policies would be my suggestion - but you will need to test it very throughly.
