Hello,

This is my first post to this community. Before registering I found a lot of good articles so I decided this would be the best place to ask my questions.

As you can read from the subject-line I have got a (to me) exciting task ahead. Recently my company bought another one and now we need to merge both SBS servers.

We have bought ourselves a new server with more RAMs and Gbs. I also did a new install with the new domainname on this new server. But now...I've recently achieved my MCSE:Messaging (thanks to Cisco Unity) status, but I lack the experience :| since our company was fairly small and IT management was not the most important thing.

Anyways; I was wondering what would be the most smartest thing to do. Using the ExMerge tool to "copy" all the mailboxes from the different servers to the new one?

A few pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Yes, exmerge will achieve your requirements. I've never bothered with import stage, just gave the users their PST's that I exported by dropping them in to their home folders but can see no reason it wouldn't work as long as you have same usernames as on previous servers and have no duplicates.

There is also a swing migration technique mentioned here often - http://www.sbsmigration.com I've never needed to use it so i can't really comment on it, but it's highly rated by M&M - you might want to have a look in to it

You can also do a bulk import of username (think it's ADSI from memory - been a while since i looked at it) if you need to, very good for large organisations but to be quite honest, in an SBS environment where you've only got 75 users you may as well just use SBS's add multiple user applet on the server management console - I added 65 users in to a new domain in about 1 1/2 hrs recently

Thanks for your reply. I already tested the email part (to .pst files --> import .pst files).
This works just fine.

But, the company we bought uses the Sharepoint environment pretty intense. How would I transfer this to the new server?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi Thijs,

That totally depends on what exactly you are going to do. If you are installing a completely new domain, you would need stsadm to restore.
