We've taken over support of an SBS server that we didn't install. On the whole it looks to be OK but the fax facility was not installed and we were asked to do so which we duly did after getting them to purchase a USR Courier V-everything.

The problem being if the server restarts, following updates or the like, the fax service appears to have not been installed. It can be re-installed from the SBS CD but we can't do this after every reboot.

Any ideas why this could be and suggestions on a solution please?

I'm wondering if perhaps I should re-install the SBS service packs in case files have been replaced by originals. If so, should I just go ahead and install SP2 or do SP1 then SP2?

Thanks

Andrew

I may have been to quick to post as I've just found this :

Error message when you start the Fax Configuration Wizard from the Server Management console in Windows Small Business Server 2003: "Fax service is not installed"

I'll post back as to whether it works or now.

Well, despite following the steps in the KB article it made no difference. After reboots the fax portion of SBS would have to be re-installed. I then made a couple of updates as per the SBS BPA despite there being no obviously link between the changes and the fax setup and fingers crossed - fax stayed installed on the last couple of reboots.

Logical?
