Our boss here is big on acronyms for user ID's and email names, so all of our users have a three to five letter name. He would like to make a change to one of them, i.e., currently, the user's ID is "xyz" and the email is xyz@mywork.com. He now wants her user ID changed to "abc" and email changed to abc@mywork.com. I know that I can change the user name in Server Management so that it displays the change, and also set up the new email address as the Primary SMTP address and keep the old email address as a secondary SMTP so that any mail to ther former email address still gets to her.

Is there a way to change the actual user name/email name without losing any data, permissions or email? Should I create the new user and email from scratch and import the email from the old mailbox?

Thanks,

Hal Filter

Well, I think I would first chenge the display name. Then, in their profile tab, I would do as you did and add the new email address. Then go to the General Tab and fix the email address. Then go to the Account tab and change the login info. After that I would leave it alone. You might have to re-boot the server for that users changes to show up in the GAL.

Thanks for the suggestions, Stan. It turned out that the user was very unhappy with the idea of changing all the things connected to her email address and convinced the boss to keep her User ID the same. Saves me some work!
