when we try to access https://servername/exchange from within the LAN or from the internet we receive a page not found error (404) no login screen is provided.

when we access https://servername/Remote we can login and use the "Use Outlook Web Access" to access our webmail from the RWW.  https://servername/OMA also works fine.

what is wrong in our setup that prevents us from accessing OWA from https://servername/exchange?

we are using SBS 2003 with SP2 and a 3rd party firewall with all apropriate ports redirected to the external IP Address of the SBS server.

Hi Erik,

I have moved the topic to the SBS 2003 forum. Is there a DNS record for servername? Does OWA work from inside the network?

Hi Marina,

I had already ran the BPA before posting. No errors are given in the report after the scan. There is a DNS record for the server and OWA does not work from inside the network and not from outside the network.

RWW works fine from inside and outside the network. and from the RWW page we can access the OWA page through the default link on the RWW page.

Hi Erik,

And which warnings were given by the BPA? Do you have the ExchWeb virtual directory in the Default website? What gives when you right click it and Browse? And what happens when you browse the Exchange VD?

Hi Marina,

The warnings given by the BPA are:

- network interface driver is more than one year old
- Microsoft Outlook 2003 missing
- help and support pages ar missing

The exchweb virtual directory is in the default website and points to C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\ExchWeb If I right click the exchange virtual directory under the default website in IIS Manager and click on browse I get a "the webpage cannot be found" page

The exchange virtual directory is in the default website and points to \\.\BackOfficeStorage\\MBX. If I right click the exchange virtual directory under the default website in IIS Manager and click on browse I get a "the webpage cannot be found" page

Hi Erik,

The two last warnings needs to be solved and they provide the steps to do that.
I would rebuild the Virtual Directories: How to reset the default virtual directories that are required to provide Outlook Web Access, Exchange ActiveSync, and Outlook Mobile Access services in Exchange Server 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883380

Hi Marina,

Already performed a rebuild of the directories as described in the third method of the knowledge base article before my initial post. I will try again using the other methods of deleting the directories and recreating them with the metabase editor or the adsutil.vbs.

I will let you know the result

Using the first method described in the knowledge base article 883380 which uses the IIS resourcekit metabase explorer I managed to recreate the Exchange virtual directories in a way that it now works.

thanks for the support in this issue!
