I have an HP Color LaserJet 2600n that I recently connected to my SBS2k3 network.
It installs on the SBS just fine via a TCP/IP port, it lists in the directory and I can even print a test page from pretty much any workstation on the network...but just once. As soon as I try to print anything else, the jobs cue up in the spool for that printer and nothing happens. When I try to delete these sedentary jobs, they never actually leave the cue, they just sit there with the "Deleting-Printing" tag under status.

I can connect this printer directly to one of my workstations, and share it out while listing in the directory but A) that's not an ideal situation as I don't want this printer's availability to be affected by the power state of the workstation and B) when I do that I can't actually find the printer in the directory when I'm looking for it on other workstations (I end up having to access it by Start - Run - \\workstation\ and then connecting to it from there).

Help?

We recently removed a HP 2600n that was connected to a workstation via USB and connected to an ethernet connection. We are getting no less than about 6 calls a day that it is not printing jobs stuck etc etc.

I opted to configure each workstation to print to it idependantly versus it being shared to remove SBS from the equation but I have to say it continues to be a problem.

I can only assume at this point there might be a driver bug, we had updated the BIOS on the printer in case that was an issue. We have in it's defense discovered some cabling issues (outside spec) so until that is resolved have halted troubleshooting it.

Sounds very similar...i.e. print one job or two before it stops working again.

Hi Tyler,

Anything in the eventlog of the server?

Marina Roos Smallbizserver.Net AdministratorMission accomplished. We have joined the branch office to our SBS 2003 Headquarters and have the same user experience on the branch office as we have on our local  network at the Headquarters. Want to know how? Hi Marina,

Nothing unusual in the event log...only one other person really uses this printer so I've set him up to print via a network connection, while keeping the primary user hard wired via USB, and it seems to be working out fairly well.
