Hello.

This morning I came in to work to find that none of our client desktops were connected to the network and the server had no internet connection.

There are lots of errors in the event logs culminating in a problem with the internal LAN nic.

However, the first sign of any problem is EventID 4000 from MSExchange transport in the Application section. It says SMTP could not connect to any DNS server. There is also EventID 2012 from smtpsvc in the System section. It says SMTP could not connect to the DNS server 194.*.*.* ip address which I don't recognise.

This happened well after everyone had left for the evening and has happened before a few times.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Jonathan,

If the server hasn't got internet access, it makes sense that you are getting exchange smtp errors.
Please, post an ipconfig /all from the server and a workstation. Open a command prompt by opening Start -> Run from the Start Menu and type cmd. From the command prompt type ipconfig /all >ip.txt. Attach this file to your answer.
