Hi:
I am really new in this kind of topics, and my question is:
Which is better: 2 network adapters or 1 adapter in server
I made a searching and I can't find anything until now.

The fact is that I found a server in this store that has 2 network cards in it (SBS 2003). One card connects the ethernet cable that comes from the modem/router and the from the other adapter goes the ethernet cable which goes to a hub.

I heard that the previous administrator left like that because at some point the Internet connection used to get loss. Then, he decided to design a 2 adapters network.
The clients (5) use windows XP and some (3) Vista.

I try to see if: wouid it be easier to re-build a one card only server?

Any advices?

Depends what you needs are really. SBS 2003 Premium includes ISA Server to protect the network from Internet threats. That requires two NIC's in the server. With SBS 2008 ISA is no longer included and a standard single NIC design will do behind some sort of hardware firewall or ISA (...ForeFront TMG) installed on a separate server.

Hi Edi,

I don't know what you mean with re-building a one card only server, as it isn't needed to rebuild a server for a change in the network setup. If you have 2 nics, you will benefit of the basic RRAS/firewall. You can also use ISA (if you have SBS Premium) for a proper firewall and proper logging.
With only 1 nic  in the server, you don't have basic firewall and are depending totally on the router for firewall capabilities. Cheap routers are not proper firewalls and hardly have any logging at all.

We have joined the branch office to our SBS 2003 Headquarters and have the same user experience on the branch office as we have on our local  network at the Headquarters. Want to know how?
