Hi,
 
On some of my servers, who recently did updates, there's now a search-box in my traybar at the bottom. I think this is the "Windows search 4.0" update.
 
Is it neccesary ? should i remove it ?
It consumes harddisk space, a lot ! (c:\document and settings\All users\Application Data\Microsoft\search\) and most likely it will slow down my servers ?

You don't really need it on the server unless you do a lot of document searching locally. The indexing has been known to slow computers down due to it keeping a log of most files on the system. Personally I would just leave it if it has come down on Windows Update - can't do too much harm.

Silverlight is also offered by Windows Update, but I don't install that on a server neither. Windows Search will slow down the server, and really serves no purpose. Remove it.
