Dear Forum

We have recently completed a swing migration of SBS 2003 to new hardware and have a few problems. One major problem is that some machines can no longer access network docs because offline file says that "sharename is unavailable for reconnect" and goes offline. This seems to be because we had Documents Redirection switched on (turning on Offline Files) and the old User Shared Folders location is no longer valid. I have turned off Docs Redirect and rebooted workstations, but the directory for My Docs on the workstations still point to the Server location and offline files is still on and greyed out.

How do I get out of this problem quickly?

Thank you

Tony

The shares should all have the same name and since in a swingmig you import the whole active directory in effect the machines should see the server as being the same domain controler/server. If your shares/permisions are slightly different you are not following the docs. BTW a great tool (commercial) to help with swingmigrations is ideal migration. This is worth buying if you want to do migrations as it saves quite a bit of time.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the reply. Although I did follow the whole procedure to the letter, the section on share transferring failed and so they were recreated manually, except those that SBS create by default ie User Shared Folders. I was fully expecting the workstations to pick up on the new server shares (of which general shares and mapped drives worked a treat) but unfortunately the Docs redirection to Users Shared Folders for whatever reason failed with apalling results. I have resolved the problem now although it took a few days of manual labour using group policy to enforce My Docs refer to the local position, disabling offline files, clearing out offline files cache, netcache as well as all references to \\server\users shared documents\.....My Documents in the registry before reestablishing registry links back to the user profile.

I'll be a bit more wary of Documents Redirection in future.

Thank you

Tony
