Hi,

We are planning the transition from SBS 2003 R2 to Windows 2003 Std for a customer.  I have a spare server running an image of the customers SBS box and on this I am testing the transition pack.

I have cleaned the server build somewhat,  uninstalled all third party apps (AV, APC, All HP etc..), defragmented the drive and run the disk cleanup wizard.

The transition pack seems to run OK,  a couple of reboots and then it kicks into Windows Setup.  A few more reboots and the Windows Setup completes and it asks for Disk 2.  This is when things seemed to go weird.  Before I had chance to place disk 2 into the DVD drive the server rebooted itself and on logon (automated logon), the transition pack displayed dialog stating that the installation has finished.

I'm uncertain if the transition did finish OK as it didn't ever get to read from Disk2.

Can anyone advise me on how to check if all is OK or if disk2 is needed for the transition pack installation.  I guess it must be as it's in the pack but...

Thanks,
Joe

Out of interest had you looked at going to EBS?

We did look at ebs but like SBS is too restrictive which is a shame because in our trials with EBS it looks to be a very well thoughtout product.  The customer is part of a larger group,  it had a go with an autonomous system but now is being brought back under the group's wing.

Have finally sorted the problems I was having with the transition pack.  Told the final reboot to wait rather than continue and then inserted disk2 and it starts to install R2.  Only problem is that the AD schema isn't correct for R2 so required to run adprep before installing. So I installed Windows 2003 SP2, ran ADPREP, installed R2 and then did all the checks to confirm the transition completed OK (Terminal Services, product ID, licensing).  Remote Web Workplace and original SBS features still work too which is a nice bonus.
