I have been getting this entry in the log for some time now and it is the only issue that I have to resolve to have 1 trouble free SBS server:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft ISA Server Control
Event Category: None
Event ID: 14079
Date: 1/07/2008
Time: 8:34:08 AM
User: N/A
Computer: ServerName
Description: Due to an unexpected error, the service fwsrv stopped responding to all requests. Stop the service or the corresponding process if it does not respond, and then start it again. Check the Windows event Viewer for related error messages.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have searched far and wide for a resolution to this and I have tried the Hotfix that MS recomended to no avail....

I have found this MS KB 916106 on the MSwebsite; before I try this I though I would double check to see if I had SP 2 installed for ISA 2004 Standard Edition.  When I looked in Add and Remove Programs; I found that I have in fact got SP1 for ISA 2004 Standard Edition and also SP3 for ISA 2004 (doesn't say "Standard Edition" after this one).

Am I right in saying that as I have SP3 installed then I don't need to install SP2, and would it be safe to assume that the fix in the above link is included in SP3?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Richard.

Yes - If you have ISA SP3 you don't also need SP2 - I have found that SP3 solves a lot of problems.

However also make sure you run the SBS BPA - this will highlight any issues - there were some major problems when Windows 2003 Sp2 came out when combined with the early Broadcomm drivers. The issue was to do with TOE (TCP hardware offloading) and a broken ISA was one of the symptoms.

Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback.  I have run the BPA and all is clear apart from the fact that it tells me that WSUS 2 is installed and not WSUS 3.. not going to do this one yet until I am happy with documentation on this process as I have read in the forums that some have had major problems.

There are no broadcomm drivers installed on this server, and if I understand you correctly, SP2 caused the problems with them; but as I said I don't have SP2 installed just SP1 and SP3.

I would be happy to try any other suggestions.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Richard,

How much RAM does the server have?
