I have a client that wants to replace their embedded intel hybrid raid card with an adaptec with separate CPU.

Has anyone been through this process? Do I need to backup and restore?

If I do need to backup and restore has anyone done this process with backupexec 11d - this is what the client has.

Thanks in advance.

Every Raid chipset uses it's own metadata on the array. changing raid cards means you'll have to reload from scratch..backup first.

Hi Matt,

I don't know about BE, but with SBS backup and restore you can pull this off. Install the new Raid controller in the server with the drivers. Perform a full backup. Disable the onboard Raid, and configure the new Raid. Install the first cd with the OS, bring it up to the same SP level as the backup, and restore from the backup.

YOu can't jsut take the drives from the embedded raide cad to an adaptec...they both use different meta data on the arrays which are written to the drives.  Backup first but expect haing to reload.
