Hello All:

Simple question.

I'm still doing some housekeeping on a server I inherited earlier this year.    The client complained of extra entries in the office distribution group.  At first I couldn't find the group be cause it wasn't listed in the default location.  I opened up active directory and found it.  To make things neat and clean, I created a new group in the proper place and added the users to it. Great, now both are there.

Had the client verify they didn't need any of the old messages and was ready to delete it then I noticed that, while it is in the distribution group area the type is "security" group.  Sure enough, it's there under security group as well.

I don't want to change their security group, at least not at this point.  But I do want to get it so it doesn't show up anymore as a distribution group.  I couldn't find a switch with in properties.  Can I "move" it or delete it from the Distribution Group subfolder of AD?

TIA.

Hi Joel,

Why don't you just try moving that group to the proper OU?

A security group can be mail-enabled and thus be used as a security group.

To resolve you isue:
Open active directory, right click on the security group and chose properties. Go to the exchange advanced tab and select the 'Hide group from Exchange Address lists' options. Then click ok to apply the new settings.

Now, to check if that worked: open exchange system manager, find the 'default global address list' under receipients, right click it and chose properties. Click on the preview button and watch the result.
