Hello,
I have a customer with a small network (2 laptops + 3 computers) - Single SBS2003 server.
the server disks have problems and I cannot boot anymore. I hope and suppose data is still there.

Tomorrow we will receive the new hardware.
What do you suggest.
My plan is to set up the server as a new domain, restore files and user data. since they have a small number of computers it is not a problem to run the connectcomptuer wizard again for a new domain.
The only "problem" would be with exchange.
What is the best solution if I can get my hands on the mdbdata folder on the old server?
I have Veritas backup Exec 11d tapes but the backups stopped working about a week ago, so the data is not up to date.

Any info or comment is appreciated.

Thanks,
Filippo

P.S.: I aplogize for my bad English.

The best solution is to give the new serve the exact same name, and exact same domain name as the old server. Otherwise yoiu will have serious issues getting the mdbdata files to work. They are servername, domain name specific.

So I simply set up the new hardware with same name.
Run SBS setup and assign same domain name, recreate users in AD and the substitute MDBDATA folder?

Is it that simple?

No, there is a whole lot more to it. You will just leave more doors open if you name everything the same. Your mdbdata may not mount. Below is a link to an article that might help. If it doesn't then the direction you will need to take will depend on the error you get when it fails to mount.
