Hi, was wondering how OneCare for Server detection rate compares to the likes of AVG E-mail Server Edition for example. I heard bad reviews of OneCare but i've also heard that its improved recently. I would like to use OneCare on the server and clients as it integrates nicely with the SBS console thus saving the hastle of working with multipul programs from different vendors. I've used AVG in the past and it flags up around 10 viruses a week on a 5 user setup.

We are using Trendmicro for quite a long time now, but recently we had some bad virus experiences due to trnemicro, see also this blog post:

So I am really pissed that a virus could get through on 5 client pc's ... .

I've also had some bad experience on the anti-spam feature of TM, so I am thinking of doing a switch.

 

With SBS 2008 Onecare and Forefront is included (trial off course), so why do we need a 3rd party after all (man this looks alot like windows media player included in win xp :p)?

Do I still need to look for a 3rd party application, which is not integrated in the SBS console?

 

Are Onecare and forefront good enough, performant? anybody with experience on the 2 MS software packets??

MS does not have a good track record with viruses on their OSes so why trust them now for their virus protection product?  Especially when not many reputable sites rank them highly....

 

For me cheap, reliable, and centralized AVG works just fine........

It's one of the best antivirus products for proactive on demand detection with a very low footprint, so even the somewhat older machines keep performing well after installing.

It has got a management console you can install on the SBS server for pushing the installation software to the clients and monitoring the status of the workstations. With the SBS version of the product you get a management server, exchange virus protection and not always up to date 'virus signatures' but also the new software. When configured correctly (which by the way isn't very hard) it also keeps the anti-virus software current. The other products I know of only update their 'virus signatures' and not their software. ESET/NOD32 constantly updates their software also and it's automatically downloaded and installed on the server and clients.

I'm using the product for over 3 years now and am a very happy user

 

By the way... it has a very competitive price and it's possible to add client licenses for the same price during the licensing period (let me explain: if you bought the license for 3 years for 15 client you're bount to have more than 15 clients over this period. With nod32 you can add the license of additional client to the existing license for the price of the remainder period. So say after one year you add a client pc you only have to pay for the remainder of 2 years for this one client).

 

So all in all a complete, easy to manage and fast anti-virus solution.
