Hi

After doing rakes of updates on a clients server and installing Trend Worry Free Business Security, I've now lost all access to the companyweb site from the desktops.  It's still working directly on the server, but not from any machine at all elsewhere.

On the companyweb ASP.Net properties the version is 2.0.59727, but on my own server which works the version is set as 1.1.4322.  If I change the problem server to be the older version it breaks companyweb on the server, and the desktops are still the same.  If i put it back to version 2.0.xxxx then it starts working on the server again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Gary

OK, I've now uninstalled sharepoint services SP3, and it seems to have wiped out my entire companyweb.  I've reinstalled Sharepoint Services version2, going to reboot the server later tonight, but I fear it's all totally gone.

Looking at the backup options shows that to restore Sharepoint files I should have created a scheduled task in the first instance, but this hasn't been done - have I totally wiped companyweb?!?!  How can I repair it or reinstall it so I can at least even get back to a fresh start with it?

Hi Gary,

Do you have a backup?

Hi Marina,

The backups that have been successful have been since companyweb stopped working, and part of the IIS has been deleted as well (Microsoft Sharepoint Administration), so I think we're going to have to do a complete server reinstall to get things working again, unfortunately.

Hi Gary,

That is a bit drastic. Have you seen this: How to remove and how to install the Windows Small Business Server 2003 SharePoint Services 2.0 companyweb Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829114/
In your case please do go through the removal part to make sure everything is removed properly.

Hi Marina,

I've been through that particular article, and clearly wasn't paying too much attention because I glossed over the part that said:

"Note Do not delete the Microsoft SharePoint Administration Web site because this site is part of the FrontPage Server Extensions components"

And I foolishly deleted this instead of the sharepoint central administration website!  This is why I'm beginning to think an entire rebuild is my only option.

Cheers
Gary

Hi Gary,

Even then it is not necessary to rebuild the server.
Add/remove programs, add/remove windows components.
Highlight (do not uncheck) application server and click the details button.
Highlight (do not uncheck) IIS and click the details button.
Uncheck 'FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions'.
OK, OK, Next (finish the process).
Then go through the above process again but check to install 'FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions' this time.
Issue the command "iisreset" and see if the web site is back.

Hi Marina,

Thanks so much for pointing me in this direction!  I did this, and after the IISRESET the Microsoft Sharepoint Admin page AND the companyweb site are back!  Companyweb is even back to how it was before, with the config changes the client had made.

Still however I cannot open companyweb on the desktop PCs, though it's fine on the server.  An IPCONFIG from the server is as follows:

Windows IP Configuration
   Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : agserver
   Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . : ag.local
   Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
   IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
   WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
   DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : ag.local

Ethernet adapter Server Local Area Connection:
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-40-F4-39-4D-BE
   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
   IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
   DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
   Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2

I'll need to wait till tomorrow to get an IPCONFIG from a desktop PC, but pretty certain it's the same as DHCP scope is configured to give out a DNS and WINS server which are pointing directly at SBS.

Thanks again
Gary
