Hi Folks
When I run SBS Setup, to reinstall sharepoint after a problem, I get the Error msg "sql server 2000 needs SP3 for windows server 2003 compatibility" and can not continue. I have checked the registry key as advised and this shows under mssqlserver/mssqlserver/currentversion as 8.00.2039 (sp4) However when I look at the other instances, for exapmle under Microsoft SQL Server/sbsmonitoring/mssqlserver/currentversion, I see 8.00.761 (sp3).
From previous posts it looks like 8.00.761 should be recognised as OK when I run SBS setup.
I have managed to upgrade the default instance of sql server 2000 but I can not apply sp4 to other instances (sbsmonitoring and bkupexec) as I get the error "not a sql server 2000 instance", although they are offered in the drop down box as candidates for upgrade.

I am completely stumped here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Bill

Did you uninstall the Sharepoint instance?

Hi Bill,

The Monitoring and BackupExec instance are MSDE and can't be upgraded to SQL server instance at all. The Monitoring instance will be upgraded automagically when the SBS SP1 is applied.
Did you follow the Premiuminstallsteps.htm from the Premium Technologies CD to upgrade the Sharepoint instance?

Hi Mariëtte
I uninstalled Sharepoint and it looks to me like that also deleted the Sharepoint instance. But what I am trying to do is reinstall Sharepoint using SBS setup.

Best Regards

Bill

Hi Marina
I have uninstalled Sharepoint and am now just trying to reinstall from the SBS setup. I will have a look at the Premiuminstallsteps.htm as you advise.

Best Regards

I have the same issue on my SBS 2003 SERVER Since i upgraded to prenium edition and installed SQL with SP4 , I cannot access the SBS 2003 SETUP It always points out that to proceed i must have installed SQL SP3. I need to access the setup to reinstall the sharepoint services and recover companyweb that was deleted after MS CRM failed instalation.   I also tried to instal SBS2003 SP1 and the process crashed at the first patch (windows server 2003 sp1) and made a major roleback hopefully leaving the system stable. Can you please advice on that?

thanks

Hi Alexandros,

Can you post the exact error message when you try to run the sql setup or the SBS setup? What exactly happened when you tried to install W2k3 SP1? Anything in the eventlogs?

The errors I get when installing SBS SP1 are as follows:

1. Could not connect to the monitoring database. This can occur when there are multiple connections to the database. Wait a short period of time, and then try again. If this error persists, run the Monitoring Configuration Wizard, and select Reinstall monitoring features.

2. The description for Event ID ( 11001 ) in Source ( MsiInstaller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Product: UDDI Database Installer -- Error 1001. [Resource lookup failed - infinite recursion detected.  Resource name: TypeInitialization_Type] --> [Resource lookup failed - infinite recursion detected.  Resource name: Arg_NullReferenceException] (NULL); (NULL); (NULL).

3. Product: UDDI Database Installer - Update '{0EAA1ADE-3AFB-4D8F-B7DB-DA0CEE50F2D1}' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\WINDOWS\uddidb.msp.log.

4. Invalid command line arguments.

Also the file C:\WINDOWS\uddidb.msp.log includes the following long information:

Regarding the WINDOWS SBS SETUP failure i get this message after the setup performs a software inspection:

1. SQL server 2003 needs SP3 for Windows server 2003 compatibility

Thus I cannot uninstall the intranet  and perform a recovery  as a 3 page article by microsoft "sharepoint recovery" instructs.

A brief history of all the installations on the server is as follows:

1. Installation of SBS 2003 Standard edition
2. Exchange server SP1 Applied
3. Installation of Prenium edition (sql WITH sp4, not ISA)
4. Failed installation of MS CRM and manually uninstallation of SQL databases and intranet website through IIS (Company web lost as it was replaced by the crm website)

Hi Alexandros,

There have been so much problems with your installation, that this is not easy to solve in a forum at all. If the Companyweb was replaced by CRM (how could that have happened in the first place), you will need to make sure that it is going to be reinstalled. Maybe a complete removal of SQL would do the trick, of course after you have made sure that the databases are being backed up.
Also, if SBS 2003 SP1 hasn't been applied yet fully, you will run into other problems as well. I think you better call in some professional support to get this up and running quickly.

Its obvious that SP1 fails to install because of a registry error. There must be an acrion to that. The CRM asks you which website you want to be replaced with its own intranet. It does not have the option to use a new site. So I chosed companyweb. Since I am not going to use crm anymore as i am installing this CMS software www.nqcontent.com all I want to know is how to make SP1 finish its instalation or how to make setup run. Also if you live in Cyprus where support is below zero you soon discover that running your own bussiness becomes a nightmare.
