Hi Igor,

Did you run the vssadmin command right after the failure? What is it saying? Did you create a complete system state backup  before?

   State: ⎖] Failed
   Last error: Not responding

First there were no errors (looks like i did not iniciate command at the right time) but then I tried again and received this.
Yes I did make complete system state backup before.

Hi Igor,

And what does the eventlog tell you? How big is that Ravnatelj database?

Nothing new, the same VSS error as I described in my first post.

It's small, less then 20 MB.

I discovered that I as an Administrator did not have access to this MSDE instance, so I thought maybe this is the issue, but I was granted access a while ago and tried again, and I am still receiving VSS error.

Hi Igor,

Each SQL instance will have error logs in the SQL folder. Anything interesting in those?

Hi,

nothing interesting or at least not corresponding to the times when backup was initiated and VSS errors reported in Eventlog.

Hi Igor,

Hmmm. Well, how about this: disable all VSS tasks, rerun SBS backup configuration to enable it again. Then try again to run SBS Backup, do the vssadmin thingy if it fails again, check the eventlogs and the sql error logs. If it still is failing, I would open a support case with MS.

I did what you suggested and also reconfigured the failing MSDE. It seems to be ok now.
Thank you very much for all your help and time.

Hi Igor,

Keep an eye on this, as today I had the same thing failing again on a clients server. Now the MSFW (ISA) instance was the culprit. I had a look at the logging and discovered that it wasn't set to delete logfiles older than. Configured that and backup was running tonight.
