I have a new installation of SBS 2003 Premium. I currently have no SQL instances listed in Enterprise Manager under SQL Server Group. I'm attempting to register the first instance. When finishing the Register SQL Server wizard an error is returned: "SQL Server does not exist or access denied".

Also, in the Service Manager if I enter the servername\sharepoint it connects and starts. However, if the server is rebooted the Service Manager is not connected after the reboot. "Auto-start service when OS starts" is selected.

The following SQL Services are starting automatically.
MSSQL$MSFW
MSSQL$SBSMONITORING
MSSQL$SHAREPOINT
SQLAGENT$SBSMONITORING

Why is this error returned when attempting to register an instance?
"SQL Server does not exist or access denied".

Thank you.

Hi Mike,

Did you upgrade the Sharepoint MSDE to a SQL instance, as described in the Premiuminstallsteps.htm?

Yes, MSDE has been upgraded to SQL Server 2000 SP4 per the documentation.

Hi Mike,

But you haven't installed a default instance of SQL server, as that would have automatically registered itself in Enterprise Manager. So you must be doing something wrong. You have replaced 'SERVERNAME' with the actual SBS servername, right?
