I really would like to install sql server just to activate the full text search and  to  be able to use the SQL manager.
I have severals version of SQL server but as I have read on others topics some can't be installed on SBS.

I have a legal license for SQL server 2000 Enterprise Edition
                                  SQL server 2000 Developer Edition

I have also SQL server 2005 WorkGroup 32 bit (DVD version)!

and that's all. I don't really know what version I should install. If none of them can be install which version of that software must I purchase? Thx

Well, I think you should buy the official upgrade to premium version which includes SQL2000 and ISA2004.
Just a matter to be legally licensed regarding your SBS...

Those licences are legal..... Microsoft regularly send us some softs such as SQL server. It's sort of mutual agreements.

I would like to install SQL server 2005 WorkGroup and so upgrade the SharePoint's instance during the install. Is it possible?

Thx

Hi,

I was not saying that those software were ilegal
Just that SBS 2003 has its own set of rules regarding licenses...

Also, there are several issues running SQL 2005 on a SBS2003 environement.

Sebastien,

if you are using SBS2003 standard and you like to use fulltext search within sharepoint, you should install SQL2000 standard, which came with sbs premium disks.

Yes, this is the best option, but I will have to pay 900$.
In fact, I have some license for SQL server 2005 WorkGroup (for free, given by MS). That is why I want to install this version of SQL. Howerver If you tell me that SQL server will crash my server or SharePoint, i will not install it...

Hi again

I can not confirm that anything will crash, nor can I confirm that it will definitely work... ;)
When using SBS you usually will need to stick to the SBS environment (means using premium edition).

[By the way: Why do you have to pay 900& for upgrading from SBS 2003 standard to premium? This should be cheaper, I guess...]

Please just search the forum here - recently we had already discussed a similar question and I remember this correctly, someone said 'do NOT install SQL2005 on SBS yet'.

I know from a customer that on their SBS2003 Premium there was SQL2005 workgroup edition installed some weeks ago - no problems there so far. But unfortunately I can not guarantee anything to you.

Hth,
Mirko

According to this link
http://www.microsoft.com/france/sbserver/achetez/tarifs.mspx#EPD

It costs 900$ to upgrade SBS sdt to premium. I have called MS to see if SQL server WorkGroup is compatible with SBS 2003
