A few months ago we had a RAID failure and had to restore our SBS 2003 Premium from tape backup.  Since then our sharepoint site had not been available.  Last night I followed KB article 829114 and have the sharepoint site partially running.  I say partially because I can get to it from the server, but not the client machines... My question...I have tried to run the set up monitoring wizard and it will not start.  The icon in systray that was there disapeared after I installed the sharepoint (per the KB above). How do I get the SQL Server 2000 Desktop back and running?

Hi Edwin,

Did you follow the backup and restore document from our site? Because when you use that method, you shouldn't have had any problem with the Companyweb. What is the error you get on the clients if you try to access the Companyweb? What error do you get when running the monitoring wizard? Anything in the eventlogs?

We use Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 and we did the install using the tape, we did not use the SBS provided backup and restore software. When trying to run the monitoring configuration wizard, I get a message that says "The wizard encountered an error while configuring the monitoring features.  Run Small Business Server setup, reinstall the Server Tools componet, then run the Monitoring Configuration Wizard again". I have done this, and get the same error! When I try to start the items in services (MSSQL$SBSMONITORING or SQLAgent$SBSMONITORING), they will not start.

To add to my previous post, I failed to answer one question... When one of the clients trys to access the companyweb site, we get a login screen asking for username and password (never used to get this).  I can't get past this.  We get an "access denied, you do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource... Is there some setting on the server I need to change to allow our users access to the site, or is the fact that the SQL desktop engine is not running causing this?

Hi Edwin,

Which exact version of BE are you running? If you have SBS Premium, you need the Premium backup from BE. It is obvious that BE didn't restore everything like the SBS Backup wizard would have, which makes it a bit difficult to troubleshoot. Can you check if the users are added to the Sharepoint permissions properly? If you don't have the SQL Server Manager running in the system tray, SQL Server 2000 hasn't been restored properly.

I am running Veritas Backup Exec for Windows Servers Small Business Server Suite version 9.1 rev 4691.  I belive it is the one designed for SBS 2003 as it restored our Exchange mail server, ISA firewall, etc fine. Can you explain how to check the "users added to Sharepoint permissions" as I am not a SBS expert....but I am the closest thing to it in our office!
