Hi,

looking at upgrading an MS Access application at our community legal centre, and have noticed that we have a copy of SQL Server on our standard edition SBS 2003.

Are there any limitations on it's use for other purposes otherthan Share Portal Services, etc.

Best wishes Alison
PS Might have posted this to the wrong forum.

Hi Alison,

SBS 2003 Standard doesn't have SQL 2000 server. It is using MSDE for Sharepoint. SBS 2003 Premium does have SQL 2000 (and ISA 2000).

Hi Marina,

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

under "Program Files" there is a directory called "Microsoft SQL Server", and although the GUI tools aren't included most of the command line ones seem to be. And " Task Manager" shows "SQLServ" running as a process. This is all on a SBS standard edition.

I would imagine that MS's SQL Database Engine (MSDE) isn't that different from the real thing.

To rephrase "Are there any User limitations on using MSDE on SBS 2003 to support a database migrated from MS Access?"

Thanks  Alison

Hi Alison,

The WMSDE version that SBS 2003 Standard is using does have limitations. One of them is the 2 Gb limit.

Hi Marina,

Thanks muchly for your assistance.
I have managed to sort out what I needed to know. Apparently there is a workload governor which to some extent limits the number of concurrent users to 8. Then the responses start to slow down.

As an ex-IMS, IDMS kiddie, still getting to grips with this stuff.

Have a nice day
Alison
