I understand that until just recently there was a forum here for the Sing IT!! Kit from www.sbsmigration.com.

Does anyone have any hands-on feedback as to the value of the kit?  either good or bad?

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

The Swing It from Jeff Middleton is absolutely good. If you want to migrate from SBS 2000 to 2003 for example, you will definitely see the value when using this method. You don't have to touch the workstations, the production network will hardly be down, as only for the moment where the new server is being plugged into the network (after the old one is plugged out) and when you are forklifting the Exchange data stores and other data. Worldwide a lot of people have used this method and it simply rocks.

That's great news!  I will definately look into this further.

Would I be correct in assuming that a migration from a MS BackOffice 2000 install (Win2k, AD, Exch 2k, SQL 2k, + misc.) to SBS2k3 would be just as efficient/simple?

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Yes, that will be a perfect candidate.

I am looking to take a buggy sbs2003 server and rebuild it on new hardware.
One of our large problems is that we cannot get the ntbackup to run at all.

Is the Kit the answer for my problem as well?

Hi Adam,

Yes, with Swing It you can migrate to new hardware.

Hello,

Can the SwingIT migration be used to migrate to full blown version of 2003 AD domain?

In theory yes - Geoff was helping me to do that but I ran into a few problems likely of my own making. I've moved to new work and passed the job to someone else now.

I can see no reason why it won't work - the catch is that SBS installs all the necessary services and modules automatically - with full server you have to choose to install them (e.g. Exchange).
