Ok, I have a question. I have a scenario where the current server is in a classified area and cannot be brought outside of this area. I am thinking of using the swing migration to upgrade to new server hardware. I was thinking I could just setup the tempdc and the newsbsdc outside of the classified area (so i could have internet access) and then get them all patched up and secured and then move them into the classified area and connect the tempdc to get the AD info and all that good stuff and then "swing it" to the newsbsdc. but after reading up some more about sbs install, i read that you only have about 6 hours after installing the first part of sbs until you have to do the dcpromo or else it will reboot every 100 minutes or so. i was wondering if those time frames were correct, cause if so then i wouldnt be able to do the "offline" portion of this until the day of the switch over and would have to be fairly quick on doing the security settings and everything else before it gets to the point of rebooting every 100 minutes. i do have a copy of windows server 2003 that i am assuming i could use for the tempdc to keep from that happening but what about for the newsbsdc? any ideas?
