I need some advice.  I made a major mistake on my SBS 2003 Premium SP2 setup - I used Windows Installer Clean Up as a tool to help reduce the size of my C: drive (BEFORE I found out it was NOT for that purpose).  I immediately lost my ISA 2004 and Dell System Management programs and can't get them back.  Advice on the microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs newsgroup was to do a bare-metal restore.  Ouch!

I use Symantec Backup Exec 11d with tapes twice per day to backup most of my files.

Frankly, the thought of doing a bare-metal restore using the MS whitepaper scares me.  Never done one, and I'm afraid I'll forget a related task not in the paper that I will find "essential" once I've wiped the disk.

Then I remembered the talk on this website for the last few years about the SwingIt migration.  From the website, it appears that this will work for me, but wanted to know if this is right for my situation.

I obviously have corruption somewhere; will that make a difference?  I don't have another server or workstation that is close to the build of my server.  Can it still work?  Anyone do this before and care to offer advice/comforting words

If you have you backup tapes prior to the issues then test them on another machine just to make sure there are in face ok. I have seen it so many times and I'm sure everyone has a story of bad tapes.

Then wipe and reinstall disk 1, and then install Backup Exec and then do a restore in safe-mode.

Swing migration could work in this case, but who knows what are system components could be hosed as well!

Best of luck!
