SBS2000 with XP-Pro client. Email was fine, then this started to happen. Background. Exchange configured to store email onto client, inbox has sub folders operated by rules which are stored on the server.
The user logs onto any other client all email is ok. On his own client machine the following happens. Mail that is part of a rule is delivered into the sub folders that lie under the inbox. No mail goes into the inbox. Correct junk mail goes into the junk mail folder. I have checked the settings with other XPro clients and they appear to be the same.
Any ideas what to to look for? TIA Denis

One thing I forgot, I uninstalled outlook on the client, and reinstalled, and got the same behaviour. Denis

Hi Denis,
If that user has no problems when using another machine, the problem must be in his 'own' machine. Double check every setting in Outlook on it.

HI Marina, Below are the settings set oon the work station. I have checked these with another machine and they are the same. It is so strange that only mail with a rule is getting into the folders under the inbox. I hope this helps. Thanks, Denis
Under Options menu in Outlook 2003 Mail set up Email Accounts Name: Microsoft Exchange Server etb01.etb.local, use Cached Exchange Mode Mailbox name (Denis.hodgins)
Microsfot Exchange Server General Tab Microsoft Exchange Server When starting Automatically detect connection state Advanced Tab USed Cached Exchange Mode Security Tab None clicked Connection Tab Connect using LAN Remote Mail tab Process marked items
Send/Receive Groups
Type: Exchange (default) Deliver new email to the following address: Mailbox D.J.Hodgins

Hi Denis,
So it is not 'a user', but your own account on your own machine? What exactly do you mean with mail with a rule? And you should check every setting in Outlook, not only the email account settings.

Sorry, trying not to sound stupid as I cant seem to understand what is happening. Last night I set up a rule in Outlook on my workstation to place all incoming mail into a mail folder under the inbox called SecondInbox. All mail is going into this mailbox folder. I stopped the rule and no mail goes into the top inbox folder. When you mention chaeck all outlook, do you mean user setting in exchange. thanks, Denis

Hi Marina, We do not use OWA. Today I logged on to my workstation as another user who has not logged onto it before. Clicked on email and allowed it to install with all the standard settings. Email for this user was ok. I then checked the settings and they are all the same as my account. I checked my account details in exchange and these are all the same. Cheers, Denis |

Hi Denis,
Use OWA from a workstation to see what happens, then you know if it is something on the machine, the user profile or something else.

Hi Marina, Happy New Year I am going to set up OWA and see what that does, but I have a silly question. I have looked at the article about setting up OWA, my question is; For external access would I need to purchase a domain name. My current domain www.etb.co.uk 'mx' and 'a' records are hosted with them using a fixed IP address on my router. Would I need another fixed IP address? Sorry if these are basic questions, I am new to this side of things as a part time administrator.

Hi Denis,
OWA is by default enabled and should work internally on the network without anything you need to do. Simply browse to the companyweb and select Remote Email or type http://servername/exchange which will give you the OWA login screen directly. For external access you can simply use the mx record for the web certificate or your public IP.
