I'm working on a computer that when I access many of the control panels (from the start menu or from a windows explorer window) the control panel will show up for about ten seconds then disappear. Examples: 1) I open Display to change the settings and in the middle of changing, it just closes with no error. 2) I open Add/Remove programs and try to remove a program, but the window and anything that I am doing closes down, again with no warning or error.

Makes it very hard to make any changes to the computer...and making any Network Connection changes is almost impossible.

Any suggestions?

Marina,

Sorry that I didn't update this. Problem is "solved" in that it was a hardware problem, so to speak. I had a DiskGO 300 GB external USB hard drive connected to the computer. If this drive is connected, I run into the problem. If I disconnect the drive, the problem goes away. I'm not sure if the problem is with the hardware or with legacy data that is on the computer from updates in the past. I have not had or taken the time to reinstall a fresh clean system on the computer.

If you have any thoughts, please pass them along.

Thanks!

Hal

Hi Hal,

Does that only happen on this computer or other computers as well?
