Hello there,

I've moved my SBS in a new box and all works fine until I try to connect my Workstations in the new domain.
First I made a workstation member of a workgroup.
Connected as local admin, connectcomputer seems to work fine until I receved "An error occured whilst configuring network settings" error message.

I cannot figure why...
I put ipconfig in annex for a workstation and the server.
Could you help me ?

Many thanks in advance

Hello Robert,

Thank you for helping me, you are right, the DHCP setting is set to NO but it is for the server (with a LAN and a WAN connections)
On the workstation, it is set to YES, of course.

Nothing special on the server nor on the workstation.

Those txt files mentioned Broadcom NICs. There are all kinds of posts indicating there are issues with Broadcom NICs. I'm sorry I'm not up on those posts, but I have to wonder if those are some of the ones with issues. Try updating your NIC drivers. Sometimes this is a firewall issus. Can you ping both ways between clients and server?

Have you installed Windows Server 2003 SP2 on the SBS box? This is a known issue with SP2 installed on SBS. If you have installed it, go ahead and uninstall, as that will probably take care of the issue. Otherwise, stan has good insight, in that there are issues with some Broadcom NICs, and you should make sure you have the latest drivers installed on the server.

Also, you can post the output from the ConnectComputer tool that's been logged on the workstation. It resides in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Businss Server\Client (I think that's the path). That will tell us if something else is going on.

You can ping the server by IP address and by name as well from the workstation, correct?

In addition, here you can find useful hints on how to cope with some SP2 related error conditions:

As pointed out before in this thread, there are problems especially with Broadcom. This issue is covered here, too.

Mirko

Hello Stan,

Thank you for your advice, but on the worstation it is a linksys NIC and I have the very same issue with all the 4 PC witch I try to reconnect.
All those PC were connected to my old SBS box.

And yes, I can ping all the PC and the server from the PC and the server with her name (that is the DNS works fine).
From all the PC I can open a remote session on the server and vice versa...

Hello Eriq,

No, no SP2 at all.

Here is the log file asked, I hope it could help to understand...

It wouldn't be the linksys NICs that would be the issue. It would be the Broadcom NICs on the server.

Hello all,

I realize that I forgot to mention that I've first put a brand new PC in the domain without any issue.
After that I try to reconnect the other PCs
Sorry for that as it could change the diagnostic a lot...

OK, it was not a real migration as the main info are on a separate drive and the mails are saved as pst before stopping the old box.
So it was a brand new server box with a new local domain name and of course the same internet FQDN
Once the config was done, I connect a brand new PC to the domain and log in with my name.
I then received my new mails from exchange, import the pst items onto exchange and import the main data from an external disk to the server.
After that, I was ready to work (and I did)
When I try to connect the old PCs (including my old one) I receive the erreor message.
I dont know what I could say more of that.

Again thank you for your help.

did you remove the old pc's from the old domain before trying to join them to this new one?

If the new domain is the same (name) as the old one, then that is a recepie for disaster :P

especially if the new pc joined straight away without any trouble.

Yes, they are all in a workgroup, but the new local domain name is not the same as in the past
