I have a new laptop with XP and Office 2007. I joined the laptop to the server using connectcomputer, etc just as I always do. The laptop was working beautifully. I even used it when I was out of the office before I issued it to the user.

The user has had it about two weeks and it logins wonderfully and stays connected for about five minutes. Out of the blue is loses connection to Exchange (starts asking for the user's password) and the ISA server. It does not lose its IP address. If I do a release and renew for the IP address it obtains the same IP address but it goes back to working for another five minutes.

I've tried Google and the only solution when this has happened with Outlook 2003 was deleting the users account off the server and adding them back. I'm a little wary of this as I'm scared of deleting his calendar, email, contacts, etc.

Any other ideas?

Did you install the ISA Client software on the laptop?

Hi Kevin,

Is the Ripcurl patch installed on the SBS server? Anything in the eventlogs of that machine?

I don't know what the ripcurl patch is.

I have all updates installed on the server except:
Windows Server 2003 SP2
Sharepoint Services SP2 (KB887624)
IE 7.0

I have wiped the drive clean and reinstalled from scratch. It is still happening.

Attached our two ipconfigs off the workstation. The first one is the ipconfig after the station loses Exchange and ISA connection but it maintains its IP address.
The second one is right after releasing and renewing the IP.

I also get this error about half the time before I lose connection.

Hi Kevin,

Install that Sharepoint patch. Ripcurl is here: The Official SBS Blog : SBS Vista Client Update (Ripcurl) Now Available: http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/02/09/sbs-vista-client-update-ripcurl-now-available.aspx
Disable those 2 other connections on the laptop. And find the device that is also using the 39 IP as it is definitely not the laptop.

Hi Kevin
As Marina said.  Find the other machine on 192.168.16.39, if it's any help I can tell you it's a Dell machine.

Cheers
Steve

I will install Ripcurl as soon as possible.

Regarding the 39 IP I have shut down the laptop, disconnected the network cable, deleted the IP lease and I can still ping the IP and the computer name of the laptop. Is it possible for the computer conflicting to assume the name of the laptop?

I've checked all running computers and none have the 39 IP. I have even rebooted the server.

The quick fix so far has been to exclude the 39 IP from my IP scheme, reconnect the laptop so it gets a different address and then remove the exclusion.

The conflicting IP is the Dell unmanaged switch!!!

I tried to do a remote connection and it didn't work so tried to browse to the IP in IE and found it.
