 Hiya,
I've got a few laptops that are used out of office then synconised. When the user of one of these laptops tries to synconise his laptop any files that he's opened or created offline dont sync. The sync manager screen comes up with a Access denied error message.
THis only happens to one of the laptops, the others seem OK.
Any ideas?
Picture of error attached.
Cheers
John

Many thanks for that Robert. I'll check tomorrow.
Whats the stored passwords for? I thought there was just the Main Windows password? WOuld the user have had to set this up or is this default.
Just a thought, the guy has a fingerprint reader security login facility on the laptop. WOuld that have affected it?
Thanks VERY much.
John

any stored password that has expired can cause problems, because the os will attempt to use the stored one, usually before prompting you to enter a different one - however in some cases like a synch at logoff you dont get prompted to enter a new one. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms918995.aspx http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/66a6776a-b1ef-43dd-8f18-d694fd07494b1033.mspx?mfr=true http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/78b6a757-f84f-4203-abf8-937a7791859e1033.mspx?mfr=true these might also offer some guidance. |

I was logged in as the user when I check the KeyManager.
No relevant errors in the logs.
I've tried offline-online sync on another (desktop) PC under that users account and this worked fine. THerefore it seems to be related to that laptop or the user account on that laptop....

Hi,
I have been searching the web for just such a scenario as described in this thread (Files created or modified offline refuse to synch). I have one employee at a client of mine with just this problem - the other mobile users there don't have the problem. BUT GUESS WHAT:
This employee also uses a fingerprint reader!
PS. If he logs off the files which had been given trouble are synchronised correctly. He can then log on and work normally with the files that he created/modified offsite.

Some more thoughts
Thinking back to Robert Pearman's coments about stored passwords - that is how the fingerprint reader works (in the case of my client). He runs his finger over the reader during the boot process and before windows starts loading! This then runs straight through and completes the logon to the domain without the password being entered manually. So his password on the domain is stored by the fingerprint reader and made available to provide an automated logon.
Now: Do I tell my client that there is no 'fix' beyond
(a) logging off and on again as above or
(b) disabling the fingerprint reader and working like the rest of us?

| Is there no control software for the reader? If not 'reset my password' then 'forget my finger'. |

Hi Guys, I thought I put the solution up but looks like I didnt. Sorry. Anyway, it turns out it is the fingerprint reader security software. removing the Toshiba fingerprint security software clears the issue and the sync works fine. I've spoken to Toshiba support and they are still to find a fix. I've got a reminder to chase them up next week. IF they find a solution to run the fingerprint reader AND Syc ok I'll update the thread. This was with a toshiba R500 Portege. Cheers John |
