Hi everyone,

age old problem. client systems now starting to take longer to startup, logon, basically everything. Done the standard thing of clearing out the old apps, cleaning the data up and trying to defrag the disk but does anyone have any other suggetions short of a rebuild?

Thanks in advance

bring up task manager. Windows has grown over the years with all of the patches and updates. if you are running 512 megs and below i bet you are under memory pressures. Bring up task manager and look at the performance tab. See how much memory you are using vs how much you have installed. An upgrade to 1 gig might be better than a rebuild.

Hi Williams, I'll certainly have a look at the memory usage, each of the systems concerned is running at least 1GB of memory. I think it's just the age old saga of the user installing countless stuff which is all sitting in the background somewhere ot maybe the countless registry entries?
Thanks again for the reply

I would check what exactly is loading when the system starts up. Try to run something like Hijack this and figure out what exactly is running.
