As a favor, I'm setting up a SBS2003 R2 (Standard - no ISA) server for a small non-profit company with 3 desktops and a laptop (All XP Pro). Internet
connectivity comes through a Linksys WRT54G. The server manages DHCP/DNS for the internal (or is supposed to :-)) Any I am having issues with the infamous "An error occurred while configuring networking settings" My apologies inadvance for the extensive post, but I have been pouring over this forum and have attempted most every fix/suggestion and have had no luck. Below are the particulars that may be of assistance.

The DNS client is not configured :
The DNS client is not configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server. For detailed instructions about how to configure
the DNS client, see the "Configurations" section of the Knowledge Base article "How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business
Server 2003" at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=95289. Note: If you have another domain controller or DNS server in your domain, it
may not be necessary to point the DNS client only to the internal IP address of the server .
I have gone through the KB article meticulously and have found nothing out of the norm from what is described in the article.
I can attached the export lists from DNS and DHCP if they would be of use. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am at loss where to go from here.
Thanks in advance,
Nate

Hi Nate,
You don't need WINS on the SBS external nic and NetBIOS over TCP/IP should be disabled on it. Change it and rerun CEICW. If that finishes successfully, rerun the BPA.

It appears a portion of my problem was with conflicting scope options within DHCP. The owner of the SBS server had powered up the server for the first time with the internet connection plugged into the card that is now the LAN card, apparently causing the "Scenario 4" described in MS KB article 875422 "The wizard cannot set the DHCP scope options" error message.
I found that the key LANNIC at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer was incorrectly listed as the External NIC. I have made the change as indicated by th article, rerun BPA, and the DNS error is no longer found.
Marina, I have also made the changes suggested in your response (see ipconfigs below) regarding WINS and NetBios over TCP/IP. I have rerun the CEICW and BPA. BPA no longer reports any critical issues.
But this is all to no avail. I am still unable to connect to the domain, with the same "An error occured when configuring networking settings."

FYI - Ended up wiping the whole thing and reinstalling (with appropriate hardware installed from the get go!). All is now well with computers connecting. Frustrating experience all the way round, but at least I got some more practice on disaster recovery.
