Hi,

We've got a TS running on our SBS2003 network since about 2months. I followed the "how to install" guide, all working great, but I'm after some more pointers please:

-> on  licensing:
I've got 10 TS per User CALs activated on our SBS2003. I noticed sometime ago that none of them had been issued, and that instead Temporary licences per device have been issued.
 I checked on the TS, and indeed it was in "per device" licensing mode. I changed that to "per user", rebooted TS and SBS, left it a few days. Still, only the temporary licenses per device are used. Any ideas what else I should do so that the correct licences are used? I need to get this resolved before temporary licences run out.

-> on session management:

- users from a remote office are linked to our network with RRAS->ISA site-to-site VPN link (needed for remote printing support). From the CTRL+ALT+DEL prompt, I would like these users to log on straight to the TS. Is this possible? Currently they log on to the network, then start an RDP session to the TS.

- CAPS and NUM lock: is there a way to force these to be the same on the TS session as on the user's workstation?

Any advice will be very welcome!

Many thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Did you figure this out yet?

Marina Roos Smallbizserver.Net AdministratorMission accomplished. We have joined the branch office to our SBS 2003 Headquarters and have the same user experience on the branch office as we have on our local  network at the Headquarters. Want to know how? Hello Marina,

Yes and No...

Licensing question: sorted. SBS no longer issues Temporary TS licences. But I was still puzzled as to why it didn't register the use of TS User CALs, then found this, from MS kb822134:
“Currently, Windows Server 2003 does not manage User CALs. This means that even though there is a User CAL in the license server database, the User CAL will not be decremented when it is used.”

Reg. direct logon to TS from PCs on remote subnet, some of these remote users still need local access to their PC for 3rd party apps, so I've abandoned the idea. But I've now allowed direct logon to TS from RDP, to save on another password request.

I am still trying to resolve
- how to synchronise Caps / Num lock between local PC and TS session.
- how to allow Java to run for normal users on our locked-down TS

If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears!

Thanks,
Marc
