Hi guys & gals,

We have a customer with a winery who is running SBS2003 R2 Standard (I inherited it). They have been successfully using mobile devices to Sync OTA, but their Netgear router go too old and has needed to be replaced with a shiny Belkin. Their 2 devices are with 2 different carriers here in NZ (a Treo and a Jasjar).

As far as I know we set up the Belkin exactly the same as the retired Netgear, and opened up ports 25, 443, 444, 1723 and 3389 (same as Netgear). I left the winery and everything seemed to be working, except that we didn't check OTA syncing. Several days later I got the following message from the winemaker: "Having a little trouble sync-ing with my TREO….  With Error code:  support code 0x80072EE2" . Google didn't really yield anything useful. I got him to plug in the old netgear instead of the Belkin and all OK. Put the Belkin back in, nosync.

The only way I could get syncing working is to open up port 80 on the router. As far as I know, this was not open on the Netgear. I don't like having port 80 open anyway.

What is likely to be causing our issue?

Thanks,
Clive

is the belkin web manageable over ssl? it may be interupting the traffic destined for the server.

i have seen this before on some new draytek routers - it will allow you to open up the port but doesnt allow you to actually go to the server because the router itself is intersepting traffic over ssl - and because you are adding /exchange or /oma you get page cannot be displayed or somthing similar because of course these pages dont exist on the routers little webserver.

the solution in our case was to either disable web managment of the router on port 443, or switch it to a new port, ie 8443.
